Rudy Gardea BFA Illustration/MFA Graphic Design
Since earning a BFA from the Illustration Department at California State University at
Long Beach, I’ve worked as an Illustrator and Graphic Designer for a number of diverse design firms and agencies.
I’ve been employed as an in-house creative as well as freelance commissions and non-profit organizations ranging from the military to our wildlife and natural environment. Some of my clients have included: The National Football League, City of Los Angeles, Northrup Grumman, Boeing, Old Guys Rule, Flying Leatherneck Museum, Amigos of Bolsa Chica, Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center as well as contributing to G-Fan International Magazine,
My style has been influenced by the early poster artists of the Plakatstil movement such as Ludwig Holhwein and Lucien Bernhard. The approach I employ with my illustrations has always been to try and achieve visual clarity with emotional resonance. I want the viewer to be entertained and engaged in the story being conveyed.
I have been teaching Art and Design since 2000 as a full-time faculty member at Mt. Sierra College, and the Art Institute of Orange County. I’ve also been an adjunct faculty member at Saddleback College and Cypress College. I am currently the Advanced Drawing and Graphic Art instructor at Santa Margarita High School in Southern California.
